Pappa Cafe, the homesick child

Who would have thought that being homesick can result to luck? That is what Anton had experienced, the founder of Pappa retaurant. The idiom word “Pappa” is inspired by the feeling of homesickness felt by the founder of this eating place at Jalan Jaksa, when he was seperated far away from his parents. Then, in 1995 Antoon built the Pappa Cafe and it developed rapidly until now. This can be seen by the opening of Pappa Cafe at Puncak, Bogor.

It seems likely that it has happened. With the target of getting more foreign tourists, the amount of visitors at the cafe is now quiet high. Especially in the tourist visiting season, in July and August. At that time, it is almost for sure that the cafe with 50 seats is always full. When this happens sights such as tourists eating while standing up become a common sight.

For that, if you don`t want to experience this, then it is better to reserve a place by phoning (021) 319233452. by this, at least one of the tables out of 16 available can be yours.

Pappa cafe is located at Jalan Jaksa no.41, Central Jakarta. It opens 24 hours a day, and about 26 attendants will be ready to serve you. It`s a pitty that even though Jalan Jaksa is famous for their cheap hostels. Pappa cafe does not have provide a staying place.

Menus offered at Pappa Cafe are divided into three categories. First, the Indonesian dishes, then there`s the European dishes, and the last are the Indian dishes. The prices are relatively cheap, starting from 5,000 Indonesian Rupiahs (IDR) to 25,000 IDR. Out of the three menus, the Indian dishes are the cafes main menu, such as the curry and the Capatu Bread. Both food have been well approved by an Indian visitor, who turns out to be a chef.

The curry is famous for its chilli flavour, but at Pappa Cafe it isn`t. the curry is customized to the tourists taste which mainly doesn`t like the chilli flavour. Therefore, almost all the Pappa Cafe menus are not chilli.

To keep the original taste, Pappa Cafe buys the curry spices straight from the Indian food spices store near Pasar Baru, Jakarta.

The Indonesian food is various, from the ones made out of chicken, meat, sea products, to the ones mainly consisting of noodles. I recommend the butter sauced fried chicken. This dish is made from slices of chicken meat with no bones. The sauce tastes sweat, and the chicken is soft. So, you won`t have a hard time chewing or slicing the meat.

Besides that, Pappa Cafe also provides a special breakfast menu with European food as the menu. Such as, sandwich and scrambled eggs, both menus are the most often ordered. But it doesn`t mean that it`s better to be consumed only in the morning. The breakfast menu is also often ordered at lunchtime by guests. Besides food, they also have beverages, from soft drinks to the ones containing alcohol, such as beer.

The cleanness of Pappa Cafe is good enough. The walls are full of Indonesian Paintings, making us able to sit in the cafe for hours with ease. There`s about 3 big sized fans to cool the place down. Besides that, the music box will accompany you while you`re eating.

Talking about entertainment, Pappa Cafe doesn`t have a stage to entertain guests, so there is no live music band to accomany guests while their eating. Although, Pappa Cafe has always been a choice for celebrating certain events, such as new years night.
