The Image of Sundanese in Priangan

Form the name you can easily guess what kind of food they serve. Exactly! Restaurant does serve the typical Sundanese food. Even the interior shows the typical Sundanese culture.

Starting from the entrance door, the visitors are welcomed by “Cepot”, one of the figures of wayang golek. There are also other accessories, such as a traditional umbrella and a faggot of paddy. Despite that it seems the placing of the accessories could be better, the desire to give the Sundanese impression deserves the thumbs up.

The way they serve the food at this restaurant at Jalan KH Agus Salim no. 55A, Central Jakarta, is quiet unique. Not like any other restaurant, the guests can take directly what he wants. They can take any the food they want which is provided in a buffet.

If your bored with the Sundanese beef or chicken dish, the restaurant that belongs to Mrs. Tari Asih also serves seafood, carps, and pomfrets. Besides that, there are also 5 kinds of chilli sauce, the “terasi”, “basil”, “manggo”, and the “gandaria” chilli sauce. They all have different names, but the have something in common which is the chilli flavour.

But don`t eat straight away. Because the fish and meat are served half cooked. After the guests have finished choosing their food, the restaurant attendants will then take them to the kitchen to be cooked. The reason for this is so that the food that the guests will eat can be eaten in warm condition.

From Monday to Saturday, the Priangan opens from 10.30 a.m. until 09.30 p.m. During that time, the restaurant which has 50 seats is always ready to serve. If you want to reserve, you can call to (021) 31938159 or 31925711, but don`t call on Sundays because the restaurant doesn`t open on Sundays.

It`s better to eat with your fingers, the restaurant which has been open since 1985 provides a wash basin plus soap to wash your hands. The atmosphere in the restaurant is cool because there are about 2 or 3 air conditioners. The cleanness of the restaurant is well taken care of, the attendants will clean our table straight away after we`ve finished eating.

The average price in the restaurant is about 10 Indonesian Rupiahs (IDR) upto 20 IDR, with an extra charge of tax of about 10 persent. Like any other restaurants, Priangan does not accept credit cards

Priangan is a place to eat, but if they really want to uplift the image of Sundanese, then they should rearrange their interior.
